I forgot how good it feels to spend time out in the yard. Cleaning up from the winter. Planting new things. Listening to the birds sing! Oh and to find natures little animals here and there.
This last week I screamed so loud I thought he neighbors would come running to make sure I was ok. I was pulling weeds in one of the flower beds when something jumped at me. I jumped back and screamed.
It was a road. Pretty good size but I’m sure I startled him just as much as he startled me. No one came running so the scream must have been louder in my head. The joy of outdoors.
The garden is looking really good.
Lots of great things coming up and doing what they do! Grow and produce veggies.
It’s Memorial Day Weekend. Please be safe out there. Watch for bikes and motorcycles. Watch for kids balls headed for the street. Be in the moments this weekend. Thank you all who served but most of all thank you to those that gave their lives so we could be live the way we do!
It has been crazy hot here in the 937 farmers almanac says we should be in the hi 60s, we were at 84 at one point when I looked and I’m sure it felt more like 95. Anyway, got my mother in laws beds all filled up
And got the potatoes planted over there and tonight I finally got some help to get dirt in my beds. I need about 10 more bags and I’ll be ready to plant
It’s hard work but it gives me great joy to watch it all grow! Hoping the rain holds out tomorrow till the late afternoon so I can get the rest of the dirt in my beds and get my little seedlings in the ground
I’ll let ya know how it goes!
Here in the 937 we have several garden centers to go to to get ideas and purchase plants. It’s still 2 weeks before we are safe to put things in the ground here in Ohio. The Garden Center I was at yesterday says May 15th is the last of the possible frost dates.
Anyway, I picked up a few flowers for the front pots
But the coolest part about going to Garden centers is getting ideas. A few years ago we got the idea to spray paint the tomato cages after going to Lowes and seeing all the colorful cages! Added a lot of color to the garden :0)
So far this has been the coolest thing I have seen at any of the Places I have been and what a great idea…
Turn your tomato cages upside down over your cucumber plants. They can vine up the cages. Game Changer! I’m so gonna try this and I have a few other thing for them to climb up when I get to planting.
Till next time…..happy gardening!
What started out as a cool 56 degree morning turned into a beautiful spring day! I have been outside all morning and afternoon. 71 degrees in the 937 and I had to put short sleeves on (yeah, started in a sweat shirt.)
open the windows….check
Transplant the seedlings….check
Talk with the company that’s doing some yard work for us….check!
Man it feels good to get some dirt therapy in today!
So I movies the seedlings into cups as to give them some more room to take root. The cups we can reuse. There’s another month before we can get them in the spot they will live in.
I also found lots of containers to put the plants in that we will be digging up next week. We are putting in a bed in the front yard. Moving stuff from the back yard. Yes there will be photos! But that caused me to move stuff at the mother inlaws house to get to the containers I needed. So here is before and after. Yes I picked up the lid after I took the photo :0)
So glad we had a spring day. Only bad thing was a nail in my shoe that took pliers to get out. Thank heavens it went between my toes!
Can’t wait to get started on my next project next week….the back yard!
I can’t believe that it’s been three months and 17 days sense my last blog….oppppps guess I should do better!
Lots of things going on. Training for my next 10k, garden is getting started and seedlings are growing more everyday. Going to be starting a new live Facebook chat in the next few weeks talking about my garden and how easy it is to have one :0) Well I think it is. My cousins think so too :0)
Spring brings out all the could be’s. Everything in the yard is waking up, the birds are singing there songs and I for one am filled with hope of a great garden season :0)
Here is what I’ve been up too the last few months…cold weather, Photography, learning my dulcimer, cooking, celebrating family bdays and Mr P. I’ll share the garden with you later :0)
Here’s too new adventures!
Wow 2017 is going to be over in a few hours and I have had some time to think about the last year. I have gotten in better health! Walked not one but two 10ks this year! Went on a great vacation for Sanibel Florida! Planted a wonderful garden. Made better choices for my eating! Kept my blood pressure under control. Had family come and visit at my house for the first time ever! And my business did pretty well this last year as well! I have had a pretty blessed year really!
As 2018 comes rushing in I want to take a few minutes and share what my plans are for the new year.
Business wise I am taking a Master Class and learning more about portraits and getting more candid photos of my clients. Try and get there natural appearance. Even going to work on selling some of my work. Reading the Photographers Market 2018 book and going to get my work out there a bit! Starting January off with promo photos of a client for her new radio show…so exciting!
Still going to work on my health. The gym a few days a week and then some added stretching at home. I plan to walk the Air Force 10k again in 2018 and walk it a bit faster than in 2017. A few 5Ks I’m sure are going to happen as well. Plan to keep taking inches and weight off my body and continue to cook more at home for me and the family.
Going to spend time with friends and family in 2018. Going to try and make a schedule to see people that I have missed this last year. Even if it’s a FaceTime chat. Life is to short not too!
I am taking time for me in 2018. Whether it is a walk, a trip to the gym, some quiet time or what ever I am adding this to my life in 2018. It will help my mind to me healthier as well.
May 2018 be blessed beyond all our imaginations. May we all be healthier than we have ever been and may we be doing what makes us happy!
Bring in 2018! I’m ready!
I must admit I was very skeptical about making chicken and dumplings in a pressure cooker. After seeing all the new people in a Facebook group I belong to post recipes I was like…hmmmmm…I have everything I need to make that let’s try it so I did.
Got all the ingredients together
• 2 cups chicken broth
• 1 cup water
• 1 teaspoon olive oil
• 1-1/2 lbs chicken breast, cubed
• 1 tube (16oz) refrigerated biscuits
• 1 cup chopped carrots
• 2 teaspoons oregano
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon basil
• 2 cloves minced garlic
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 teaspoon pepper
The recipe on line called for a cup of peas but Im not a fan.
I also didn’t use the garlic cloves and just used garlic powder with my chicken…a teaspoon.
Then I really did follow the recipe
- Chopped the biscuits before I cooked the chicken so they were ready to go
- Cut my chicken breasts in smaller square pieces and sautéed in the olive oil till they were done
- While chicken is cooking throw in the spices and brown the chicken
- Turn off cooker and add broth and water.
- Add the carrots
- Add the biscuits
- Stir it all together and put the lid on.
- Seal the lid and set on manual for 5 minutes. It will take 5-10 minutes to come to pressure.
- Once 5 minutes is up so quick release
- Open lid, stir and serve
The flavor was really good! I think I would have liked a little more liquid so I’ll add a bit more next time but really good meal. Enough for two bowls of left overs after feeding three people!
This spring I planted tomatillos in the garden. I went out to the garden and got all the ripe tomatillos off the vine. So I gathered the ingredients I needed to try and make Verde Salsa. I got out the blender and the food processor to help chop things up.
Here are the ingredients you need:
10 cups of tomatillos
1 Med onion chopped
2 teaspoons garlic
1/2 cup cilantro
1 tbsp of lime juice
A little bit of a jalapeño pepper
(But wait there is more)
I cut the tomatillos in half and roasted them cut side down in a pan that I covered with aluminum foil. I figured there would be juice and I was right.
I put them in the oven on broil for 7 minutes and checked them. Ended up putting another minute and a half on them.
While this was going on I sautéed some yellow onion and garlic.
Cooked till it was translucent and then sat both the tomatillos and the onions aside to cool off. I put them in a bowl. After taking the tomatillos off the pan I poured the juice into a bowl just incase I need to make the salsa more saucy.
Then I put it all in the food process (was gonna use the blender but didn’t think it was big enough.
Tasted it and it needed some help…I added 1 ripe mango, 1 medium size yellow tomato, 1/2 of a grilled peach, 1/2 a grilled nectarine, 1/2 a lime, 1&1/4 tablespoons course salt, 1 small roasted red pepper, 1/2 of a green onion, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder, another small magi and another yellow tomato. Then and only them did it Taste good enough to eat.
Then I canned some of it!
We will have some for this winter!
So I am not a vegetarian but the wife is. We thought we would give vegetarian pulled pork a whirl. Well I cheated. I bought a bag of Morning Star pulled pork. Added a bottle of Stubbs Hickory Burbon sauce and thru it in the pressure cooker with a cup of veggie broth. Pushed the chicken button on the pressure cooker and waited for it to come up to the right pressure. It cooked for 22 minutes. Released the pressure and…..
Smelled just like pulled pork! She ate two sandwiches:0) we will call this a keeper! What shall I make next?
As we each know in our own way, we sometimes take a step forward to take 2 steps back. I have fallen and gotten back up more times then I can remember but the good news is I have gotten back up.
Physically I have been slowed down to a crawl for the last 3 weeks. I took my shoe off and caused a tendon in my foot not to be happy. Moon boot has been on and it is getting better but not as fast as I would like. With that being said I have been able to get my mind and heart a little better in tune with what I want to see happen in my life.
I am a procrastinator. I have all these great ideas and my follow thru has been terrible. Thru this whole sit on my behind and rest phase of life I have been able to organize my thoughts a bit better and get a grasp on what I need to get better at in this regard. I am working on getting my cards on Etsy and eBay….Ill share that with you when I get the stores published. I did become a business last month.
I will be doing better for my health as well. I have put me on the back shelf to get other things done and I am telling you that that is changing. If I don’t take care of me no one else can.
With that being said I am ready to re commit to giving the world the best me that I can. Be looking for more updates!
One day at a time!
